Re: [Need Help] Crank Pulley Removal
i've heard two ways to do this. 1) keep a belt on and tighten it up. this
alledgedly will keep the pulley from turning. i've never tried it, and it
doesn't seem like it would work for really stuck bolts. 2) use 2 allen
wrenches, and put them in bolts that are next to each other (make sure
they're all the way in! clean out the bolts with a nail or something, and
tap the wrenches in with a hammer). wedge a screwdriver perpendicular to the
wrenches so that one end of the screwdriver is on top of a wrench, and the
other end is beneath the other one; so looking at the pulley it looks like
this: %, where the circles are bolts and the "/" is the screwdriver blade.
use the screwdriver as a prybar to keep the pulley from turning as you
loosen one of the bolts. if you strip a bolt, a 12 pt (triple square) wrench
(used in the cv joint) should get it out. i'd replace the bolts with new
ones (~$1 from the stealership), cause you're gonna strip 'em at least a
little bit if you've never taken them out before. hmmm. rereading this it
seems confusing, but it really isn't when you get in there. email me off
list if you're still confused and i'll try to do better...
