rieger brakes/bearings are fixed/master cylinder swap/experiecnes

for wheel bearing info, see bottom,

ok, got a master cylinder today and did the swap. was relatively easy. sucked all fluid out with my
wifes turkey baster (my wife may kill cheapass ron for giving me that idea, heh). noded black goo at
bottom of reservior (bad). removed upper stress bar, intake boot, coolant reservior (well, moved
that aside, didnt want to drain coolant). broke all 4 lines free from the mc, removed 2 bolts
holding it to the vacuum thingy, and pulled. that vacuum thing doesnt mess around, i had to pull the
mc 3" away from it (against the vacuum), until it finally did a huge kissing sound, causing the mc
to go flying across the carport (heheh). installed the new one, cleaned out the brake reservior
(q-tips, more turkey baster action), slapped it all together. oh shit, no brake fluid (duh), picked
up some dot-4 (yes, what we are SUPPOSED to use in our cars, not the dot-3 cheap shit) and this
nifty little $2 brake bleed kit. all it is is a bottle to capture the fluid, with the hose raised
above the bleeder valve (works great). worked my way around car, pretty much had to fill the (2 oz)
bottle at each corner to flush the old (dark brown) fluid and get a stream of nifty clear valvoline
synthetic brake fluid with no air. once all done, i slapped the rest of my engine components
together and fired it up. went for a spin and managed to lock up the front 2 wheels at 90 mph (on
purpose, and not bad for stock rotors, since the fronts are 9" wide). brake feel was incredible. i
previously thought the car didnt want to stop due to the heavy ass wheels (mental note, get light
alloys next), but the brakes work so well now it doesnt matter.
moral of the story, everyone get a new/rebuilt mc if you have any doubts about your brakes.

note: somewhere in that procedure i readjusted the rear wheel bearing retaining nuts (after
inspecting outer bearings - ok), right rear was 1 (full) turn loose, left rear was 1/2 turn loose.
all shuttering/wheel vibration/noise is now gone.

Al is that much happier :P
