Sorry, I'm going to chime in to disagree here.
Bearing rebuilding - especially something complex in
geomtery like a CV joint - is not trivial. Issues
that affect longevity of the axle life include bearing
and joint material, surface finish, hardness,
accuracy, lubrication, dirt, assembly techniques, etc.
To rebuilt axles, add previous wear/abuse and
reconditioning techniques to the above.
I've had rebuilt axles last a short period on several
cars I own and have a hand in maintaining. Won't use
'em anymore. Even my local FLAPS owner/buddy won't
recommend rebuilt even though cheaper; says he gets
too many back due to failure. He's admitted that he
stocks them only because they're so popular based on
cost. We know each other well enough so that he won't
BS me.
I'd rather repack and reuse a used but good joint than
use a rebuilt.
