mk1 75-77 Differences

People,
I figured I would voice some advice to anyone looking to build, or other
wise restore a very early mk1 scirocco. AVOID IT AT ALL COSTS :) Do yourself the
favor of finding a 78-81. If you absolutely must have a 2 wiper mk1, like mysel
f, then prepare to do a fair amount of creative engineering, such as fabricating
a later model passenger side steering rack mount. The rack in my 75 had a bracke
t coming off of it, that bolted in one point to what could be called the lower h
alf of what would be a normal passenger side motor mount. Also be prepared to fi
nd tons of rust, even if it is just surface, in every possible place. I swear, V
W must have simple painted the cars cheaply, then sprayed the undercoating every
where, because once undercoating is removed from here and there i'm finding bare
metal. These cars also seem to be missing plugs in the floorboards, which allow
s water to get in, and accumulate, thereby rusting through them quickly. If you
lift the carpet, or get under the car you can see this. Fun times,
