Headlight Glass Question

Does anyone know what, if anything, the pattern in the glass of the 
headlights - specifically the Eurolights - does? It's wavey in some areas 
whith a distorted look, and clearer in others.

I need a technical answer to this - or a link that explains the patterns in 
the glass for headlights.
