Re: Restoring poor old 84' lots of questions.

Wow, Lee, sounds like you have a project ahead of you.
My '83 Scirocco Wolfsburg is silver and I can send
you some photos when I get the chance to take some
pictures with my digital camera. I've only had my
scirocco for about 3 or 4 months, so I can tell you
what I've found for my car in BC. I live in Burnaby,
and there are a number of places that specialise in
VW. Go to Bowwow for your tune up parts. They have 3
stores, one in Vancouver westside, one in Surrey , and
one in North Van. They have everything you need in
OEM and replacement parts. They do not have much in
the way of high performance parts. Their prices are
very reasonable. You can get quality German parts for
only a few cents more than the whatever brands that
Canadian Tire sells. I only shop at Canadian Tire
when everything else is closed. There's a
store/repair shop in Burnaby called Hotwater
Performance. I haven't been there, but I've talked
top them on the phone and they seem knowledgable.
They stock lots of the high performance parts that
people on this list talk about. They can do insurance
repairs/bodywork. They're in the white pages and they
have a website. By the way, mice and rats can eat
anything in a car. At one time I worked for a loan
company, and a rat had eaten through the shifter boot
of a reposessed truck.
A friend's '81 scirocco had a leaking windshield
because of improperly repaired body damage. Yours
should be looked into, because leaking seals keep the
water trapped in the pillars which rust really badly
as lots of the people on this list have found out.
As for the bad wiring, wow. If you're stuck and can't
figure it out, you can always get it fixed at
Automarine Electric. I used to have a Datsun 240 Z
where I had a stripped shell, and I put the components
from my rusted car into it. Anyhow, the headlights,
horn and turnsignals didn't work. I tried my hardest
to fix it, but couldn't. I took it to them and they
rewired it. I think the bill was quite big, though.
