Re: 'cheapass' engine mount press
Last time I did this job I went digging under the workbench and came up
with a bearing cage from a corn dryer and one from the rockshaft on a CIH
1688 combine that worked perfectly in my vice (a relatively cheap 5" job.)
I had to get my neigbour (a really big guy) to stand on the vice while I
muscled it over with a 40" piece of square stock (vice isn't attached to a
work bench - probably because my workbench is the back of a 78 Chev
pickup) I knew the mount was all the way in when the vice broke with a
loud snap. :)
A 20 ton press is about #3 on my list of shop tools to acquire, after a
drill press and a bottle kit for my wire feed welder.
