If you fried your voltage regulator, you can change it on the 16v without
changing the whole alternator.  Look for it on the back of the alternator
(where the wires connect).  It's being held on by two small bolts/screws.
Remove it and check the brushes.  If it needs replacing, Potterman can get
you a replacement for somewhere around $20 (at least he could two years
ago).
