I have heard of that, but haven't done it.

First step is getting the old mount out without
destroying the bracket. I've used a hacksaw
(assembled inside the mount) and a sawzall to cut just
the mount and not the bracket. Cutting in two places
makes it easier still. The mount usually comes out
pretty easily after that.

Now, getting the new one in, sheer force is all that
works. You can get mounts into "oval"ized brackets
with enough force (you can also seriously damage the
bracket). The trick is to get things lined up as
coaxial as possible and lay on some serious force.
Not so easy sometimes with the oddball shape of the
brackets, also more difficult with thin vise jaws that
will tend to distort both the mount and bracket at the
contact points (luckily I have a 20 ton hydraulic
arbor press in my garage. Unfortunately, most don't).
A BIG ol vise may work, if you get enough surface
contact between the vise jaws and the bracket/mount,
I'd be swinging a big deadblow hammer onto the sliding
jaw just to provide some shock force in addition to
the steady screw force.

Good Luck Al!! BTW, on the old pass side mount I sent
you - that one WAS installed WRONG as verified by
several at Cincy, including Scirocco Parts Pete. It's
upside-down.
