[Tech] 16v culprit found! semi-long

NOT! As some know my rocco has serious power problems when it hits 3500
rpms under load. ( I know, I know,....."check your timing") Well I've
triple checked timing and everything is dead on, so the car went into a
"specialty" shop yesterday. Today they call and say, "car is ready and she
runs great." I go down and talk to the tech and he says, " yea that coil
you had on there was just breaking down on the higher rpms and that was
causing the backfire,....I swapped it out with a used one I had and it
cleared right up. And your CO mixture was off a bit so I set that and your
timing is suppose to be at 32 degrees at full advance and yours was off a
bit so I set that for ya." Cool I say,... So I plunk down the $140.00 and
tell them I'll be back later tonight to pick it up. (Now in the back of my
mind I'm thinking,..."freaking brand new coil from Adirondack and the thing
is dead?) Needless to say,....I jumped in it and take off down the
road,...stomp on it in second gear and when she hits 3500 rpm,.... whatda ya
know,... no power and lots of hesitation. (F@#k~!) So I shift into third
and womp on the pedal and it dies at 3500 all the way to 4500,... then
Bam!@# takes off like a damn rocket! WTF people? Anybody got any good
leads? I just checked the timing to see what the hell this 32 degrees crap
is,..... now my timing light doesn't have a knob adjustment so that I can
follow the advance out to 32,... but at idle the LUG on the flywheel is
lined up with the pointer on the bellhousing. (not the "gash" in the
flywheel which is 6 BTDC,.)
I'm totally lost here.. I need ideas to take with me. (yes someone else
will be tuning this bastard tomorrow.)
Thanks in advance,
Chris
