Still headlights, defogger, etc. (was: Electrical Reconditioning)
<snip Brett>
Seems like you found out that terminal 30 is 12 volts always ON power,
that 87 is usually the OUT to the device being jumpered (but not always!
sometimes it leads to ground) and you have what you need on order.
<end snip>
As I found out, jumping the 30 and 87 doesn't solely indicate a bad relay.
It indicates that the relay is not switching. That could be a bad relay,
but it could be a faulty trigger (86 on the relay, the device that tells the
relay to let the power through). I switched my bad relay with a new one and
had the same problems. I then tested the relay by applying a ground to 85
and power to 30 then applying power to 86. I could hear it switch. Looks
like I get to run the continuity checks on the ignition switch again. Has
anyone had an ignition switch die? Does it go slowly and intermittently or
give up the ghost all at once?
