OK.  I've got a tall tranny (stock with my '81), and a close ratio tranny (in my '84 GTI), so how do I get the tool (figure the dealer will have the gasket...).

I've seen the kits for the taller 5th gear, but at near $200...  
Is it possible to take a taller fifth off another tranny and add it to the close ratio, without buying the kit?

yup...that's what those kits are is just a gear for another transmission, a tool, and a gasket
