Mk1 idle screw problem

It seems my idle adjustment screw is loose, after a jaunt on the
interstate my car dies when I let it idle, I have to pull over and screw
the screw back to proper idle.  Screwy, huh?  Somewhere along the line I
heard this is a common problem, and if I remember correctly there is a
more or less simple fix involving wire.  Any help would be appreciated!!
