Go with the manual cable,
it's cheaper, easier to adjust, and just plain mo-better.

(I hate my automatic cable, and it's brand-friggin new)

Oh, yeah, I'd cuss out the guy who told you the manual cable won't work, or
at least remember that they're trying to sell you stuff you don't want/need.
