You may wish to install an oil defelector from an 85+ hydraulic lifter VW.
It's a plastic shield that sits overtop of the cam and deflects oil splash
downwards. It may help keep oil from being forced out the crankcase vent
tube, but probabably won't prevent extreme blow-by gasses from staining
the air filter.
