What you broke is a surge baffle. It is there to help prevent oil from
surging to one side during cornering which would starve the pump and breifly
cause you to lose oil pressure. I don't have and extra one.

Replace them all. That's why you have 'er open anyway, right? Just order the
main bearing set and the rod bearing set from www.parts4vws.com

Yep. You can buy a complete lower end kit and upper end kit. Just add them
to your order from the Pottermans.

I don't know anything about a high performance gasket set. There are
different thikness of head gaskets if you need to play with your
compression. That's all I can think of.

Those numbers refer the the degrees of the cam lobes. Someone a little more
technical thatn I can explain that in detail. I think that the rule of thumb
woul be the higher the degree, the more top end power and the rougher the
idle. You can get a great all around cam from Techtonics for your 16V. All
it is is the Euro version of the intake cam. I'm told it's dyno proven that
nothing else creates more power under 500 rpm's then that.
