RE: 16V rings going out after 10Kmiles
Yeah it really blows goats. Im having more problems with this motor than I
did with my old 1.8 aside from the one spun bearing. My 1.8 had 215K on it
and 20K of that on a spun thrust bearing, no smoke, never used a single drop
of oil etc. Im going to do a compression test tonight, already checked the
filter. The head was brand new right off of VWs parts shelf so I doubt its
valve guides.

Damn that really sux ass man. If you are seeing mad smoke like that, then
hmmm yeah that really sux. First thing I would check is the airfilter to
see
if it is coated with oil to rule out the overfilled oil syndrome. Then I
guess it is on to compression tests. But I can't imagine rings going that
quickly. Shit I have over 140,000 miles on my original rings and still no
sign of oil burning. Good luck.
