Digital clock losing time?

This is weird...or is it?  The digital clock in my '87
cluster is losing time...looks like several minutes a
day...and I've noticed that very intermittently
(once/week, 2 weeks) it goes blank for a few minutes,
but the time is correct when it comes back.

I figured if it's losing power, it would reset itself.
 And I haven't heard of a quartz clock just losing
time!  Is this wiring, dirty contacts, or a failing
clock?  What the Sam Hell is a'goin on here? (like
Slim Pickens).
