One will suffice if you secure the spindle properly.

When I installed a mono wiper assembly on my '88, I cut down the 4 raised
square ridges on the spindle, about halfway down, 
so that I could use a couple of washers, and the spindle nut, to secure
the wiper assembly, along with the bottom mount.

I hope that makes sense to you...
