RE: Gas mileage of your 16V Mk2?

To convert L/100km to mpg US, divide 236 by your L/100km (eg my 84 8V gets
around 6.5 L/100km in the winter, so 236/6.5=36.3 mpg US.)

To convert to imperial gallons (like us die-hard holdouts north of the
border use) divide 283 by L/100KM (283/6.5 = 43.5 mpg imperial.)

I'm almost (but not quite) obsessed about the mileage the 84 Wolfsburg
gets.  I commute about 200km daily (~120 miles) in the Roc, a commute that
used to be made with a 5L/100km oil-burner.  This winter I've found that
if I keep to the 80km/h speed limit (~50mph) I can get 5.8L/100km (40 US
mpg.)  Of course, this is only practical in inclement weather when traffic
isn't moving at sub-light speeds...

I'm patiently awaiting the arrival of a G-grind cam (currently running
early 1.6 N grind) to fatten up the power band at low rpms even more than
it already is.  Next step after that will be a 10:1 block and kock-sensing
ignition, so I can have my cake and eat it too!
