He he,
And I'm planning on putting a $8K+ plus Oettinger motor in my Scirocco of
which there are no replacement parts if anything goes wrong. Hell, I'm not
even sure what kind of ignition/fuel system I am going to use yet.
After that, the paint will probably be another $4-5K, the interior mods
$3-4K, and on and on....
Mars has probably cost me over $6k so far (getting most everything for a
steal and doing all the work myself) and I still have bodywork, rollbar,
interior mods, suspension tuning, and ??? to do yet.
Craig, Brian, Wing, Chris, Kevin, Shawn, and all the others (sorry I can't
name all of you) that take the Scirocco well beyond its original intent,
kuddo's to you all.
2.0+ 16V's, turbo's, G-60's, 1.8T's.......all these conversions are
EXPENSIVE, and require a lot of time, patience and ingenuity.
Point is, if we were to look at the migrane headaches, major losses of
funds, experimental disasters, etc.. due to our Scirocco projects in the
past and projected future, most of us would be driving around in new
Jetta's, A4's, 328's, etc...
That Calloway Turbo Scirocco is a GOOD find (assuming it's an original) and
if I didn't have two Mk1's already and lived nearby I'd snap it up for sure
and spend the hours/$$ restoring such a rare car back to it's former
glory....and probably beyond.
Steve, I'd love to see your Mk2 Calloway Scirocco someday, sounds like you
put a lot of work into it, but I have to disagree with you on this one.
Hell, I know a guy (list member I think, Mac you here?) that has a car that
most would have thrown into the grave.
I held onto the car until I found someone like Mac that saw her as more that
just a VW in need of a lot of body work, a waste of money, but as a gem in
the rough and a car worth repairing and restoring.
Sorry had to add my $.02, no offence Steve :-)
