tech question: replacing engine mounts, replacing water pump, 1.6l

I'm replacing the front and passenger side engine mounts, then the water pump 
on a 1.6l scirocco with a/c.  Any tips?  Do I need to drop the engine to 
replace the mounts?   Do I need to disconnect the entire a/c and alternator 
and brackets to replace the waterpump?
