Re: Bent Valve, Too High Revs!!
I don' t have the spec sheets here from the machine shop.. (I need to dig
those up anyway),... but I did write down all this info I think? I can say
that the average shim was Extremely thin compared to the shims that some of
the other heads were getting that I saw being used. As far as for the
equipment used.... I hung around a machine shop for about 3 weeks off and
on, (during lunch brakes, etc.) and got "chummy" with the machinist there.
By the time he was working on my head he was showing me how most of the
machining was performed. (which I thought was pretty cool) So yea,...
the spring tester that was used was a "pro" tool in a automotive machine
shop. Granted,.. what some have mentioned is very true,... if you think
this will help in the power area,.. I'd say you are wrong,.... the biggest
part is valve float. Personally I don't see much of a "wear" factor
because boosting stock springs to 90 lbs. range is a very small increment
compared to what was offered to me initially. (the machine guy there
thought that a real "shimmed" spring should be in the 120 lbs. area) There
again,.. I'm not running really crazy cams either. (not stock though)
Go talk to your local machine shop about it,... most importantly ,... talk
to a couple of shops. I dealt with 5 different shops before I settled on
one.
FWIW,
Chris
