More about back seat ponds....

Hello, I just wanted to add some more information to maybe source the
problem of my occasional backseat pond.  My passenger side seatbelt is
soaked.  I've guessed that this is because the water is running down the
inside of the pillar.  Where would water enter that from?  Would this be the
hatch seal?

I had the same problem on a Scirocco, that the *rear* part below the seat
got soaked.
I took me one or two days to finally find the source :

It was coming from the right lower edge of the rear hatch,
the hatch was rusted below the rubber seal in the edge
( only visible if you lifted the seal a bit ! )
and so the water which was pouring down the hatch found it's way inside the
car there.
>From there it ran down the rear sheetmetal and was running from there
invisible below the carpet in the trunk  straight forward to reach the rear
part of the seat area
and created a small pond there.

So you might want to check the lower edges of your hatch seal also...

In my old 85, problem was bad passenger door window seal.  Water was gushing
downt hte inside of the door, and even with a repalced membrance enough was
splashign around and find its way inside the car.  Replaced the window/sill
seal and all was good.
