I did this when they totalled my s 16v...

In most states you have the option of taking 80% of totaled value &
keeping your car, it is a myth that if your car is totalled they get to
keep it. It is called a "buyback" in the insurance industry I believe.

Unfortunately, some states have outlawed this practice on newer cars, but
i highly doubt any state goes back as far as sciroccos.

If they try to total your car for say, $2000 that means they would give
you $1600 AND you keep the car. No salvage title either as the car stays
in your name, it is "totalled" as far as insurance goes, by their value to
repair books, and has no legal bearing whatsoever.
