NON ROC: VR6 Passat for 1600?

I was just wondering if anyone knew if a vr6 is an interference motor?  Does 
it have a timing belt or chain?  I only ask because i found one in the 
junkyard... its a B3?  (the older body style)
I was walkin in with my vw mechanics jacket... a guy that works there 
asks.." hey!  you like vw's right?" I say "yeah", he sais " ive got a 
sixteen valve (really slow) passat wagon, auto doestn run for 1600"  I say 
"oh yeah?  thats not that good of a price for a blown 2L, but il check it 
out"
Anyway, i go up to the impound yard where the car is... my first glimpse of 
the car is the rear.  I see a red car, but it sais GLX not GL on the back.  
Stupid F**K couldnt read the like 4 or 5 VR6 badges on the car or open the 
hood i guess.  Its an auto, and i didnt try to start it.. red with black 
leather interior bbs wheels with good tires, no rust.
Is there anything funny with the auto tranny that could cause this car to 
not start?  Does it have those stupid seatbelts where if its not plugged 
into the door the car wont start?  Dunno, maybee i can trade them a 12pack 
rocco and some dough and jump into a VR6 winter beater ;)  Thoughts on the 
subject greatly appreciated!  Thanks.
