When I changed my fronts, I had the same problem.  I used so much force
that the allen hole rounded out.  If the other solutions don't work, my
last resort was to take the entire assembly out of the car (Strut,
housing and strut bearing) WITH A SPRING COMPRESSOR ON,  I took the
housing apart.  My strut was in very bad shape and just fell apart.  I
took the pieces I needed from the pile and put all the new stuff back
on.
