Different kinds of Euro lights?

I just went and checked out a pair of "Euro Lights" that I'm going to
purchase (waiting on funds). All the Euro lights I've seen in pictures the
outside lights were bigger and did not have a metal bracket around the
outside of them. The lights I saw today looked like the US kind but had
"open bulbs". What are these from?

I went through three or four clusters trying to find a non-split gear
for my speedo, which is out of an '84 Rabbit GTI.  Finally found one,
so I thought, and now my odo is dead again. :-(

I've given up and found an entire cluster that looks like it will fit
my car, hopefully it will give me less problems.
