Stock 16V muffler questions

What was the make? How much do they cost? And if they
last so long and are quite then why do most Scirocco
owners seem to have something other than stock? Did
the performance suck?

The PO of my Scirocco must have managed to destroy the
stock muffler because it has a Bosal on it at the
moment, Bosal does not seem to hold up very long
considering the PO put it on in 98 and I got the
vehicle in 99 and rust holes are already forming on
the bottom.
