I guess you weren't really "out of ideas of how to get the damn thing
off"... ;^)
When I did the brakes on Oddball for the first time, I was able to hammer
my 8mm triple square CV joint tool into the 6mm head, and the stripped
caliper pin unbolted easily.
Instead of your "GettoFab Fix", you might want to try a set or two, of
the earlier, heavier, 7mm caliper pins...
