Re: exhaust tuning: flow vs. restriction (was: RE: engine decision's...)
I am not on anyone's side here but I semi agree with both of you. I agree
with the theories, they are correct (as far as I can tell) but you have to
remember what is being talked about. I think people are getting lost
between the Torque/Power definitions since they are different (diesel motors
have gobs of torgue but not much power and most NA gas motors have more
power than torque). I have tried both exhaust types on my car and have
found that a nice free-flowing system back to a big quiet restrictive
muffler works the best (I hate to say this but check out most of the Hondus
around town). I had a stock dual outlet 16v manifold to a TT racing
downpipe and TT non-resonator center pipe to a dynocrap muffler. After
replacing the muffler twice (kept blowing it out) I decided to go with a
more restrictive quieter muffler and this system has given me the most power
the car has ever had. The problem is FINDING the right setup for the motor
you have. I honestly believe that the system I have would wake up any 2.0L
16v that is running a dynocrap or has a resonator on it to take away noise
but it also depends on how much you've done to the motor. I would bet that
the change in my exhaust has knocked of at least a second off of my 1/4 mile
time. Feels like I got a turbo!! Anyway, just my 2 cents and experiences.
HTH!!
