I see dead scirocco's...
Hi all...
I have been looking for a large front spoiler (You know - the snow plough model) for my mk.1 and maybe a new interior, a plug for the timing hole, an oil cooler with matching flange... Actually anything VW! A couple of months ago I was looking for a complete a-pillar to repair some rust, but none of the salvage yards here in Denmark seemed to have any mk.1's ... neither Golf or Scirocco. Well, on the way home from my girlfriend this very morning I went to the local scrap yard hoping to find the plug and maybe the oil cooler. I was told he had 2 mk.1 Golfs (I've given up asking for any Sciroccos) - I found the 2 Golf's a cab and a vary early GTI. The GTI had a oil cooler which was not build into the radiator...my luck. Sadly the oil radiator was a bit squished...I don't know yet wether to buy it. It also had the large spoiler I was looking for...but as all the wheels were ripped of the car you can probably guess what the whole front was resting on :^( NOW - as I turn around from the GTI, looking out towards all the other wrecks I see something familiar....It's a god damn 1976 Scirocco...with the whole front grinded off! It's in very bad shape...non repairable. But all windows and the interior is in good shape. I only bought a vacuum and a volt gauge...original of course. He said that it'd probably be there for 6 months or so, so I was in no rush. Luckily the windscreen sorround was as corroded as mine...if not I would have spend the past month making a bottom a-pillar out of sheet metal for nothing. But aparently every mk.1 rust at these places!
Now I have an old parts car standing right on the way to my girlfriend...life is great!
Oh - has anyone here EVER made repairs to the front valance of a mk.1 Golf or Scirocco? The panel which the spoiler is mounted on is fairly rusty on mine. It's very thin sheet metal (Unlike the one which the front engine mount is attached to, or the one that the radiator is placed upon) so I don't think it's structural. Can this be bought as a new part? Actually, what kind of Scirocco uniq parts can be bought in Germany, GB and USA? - here in Denmark I can get a hold of new sills and repair sections for the rear and the floorpan.
