sticking in 3rd gear

Last night, after driving 20 minutes I couldn't shift out of 3rd gear.  this 
has happened 4 times as of today.  the only way to get out of 3rd is to stop 
the car move the clutch a little until it lets go. could this just be a 
simple as changing the linkage or something more serious?
