[stupid tranny ] Whines

This 9A trans I am running (on the A2 GLI) makes a buuuunch of noise
when I am driving, esp in 1st I can hear it real good. 

Might be there at higher speeds but the window is up and every thing
else is noisier then too, so...

It sounds just like when a car is in reverse, you know that high pitched
gear noise?

Is this normal?

I was going to swap over to Redline soon enough but is it already toast?
[Want to redo the 5th while I'm at it.]
