...That should work.
Except, you don't remove the crank timing gear, or the crank bolt, to do
a timing belt.
You remove the four 6MM allen bolts, and then the crank pulley can be
presuaded to come off...
I use a puller, where the fingers fit behind the pulley, and it works
against the crank bolt.
Another way to remove the "harmonic balancer":
Once you get the outer pulley off, you'll see that there are 4 threaded
holes.
If you thread the bolts into them, they will eventually push the pulley
off.
This is a last resort for me, because I've had the crank pulley bolts get
screwed up this way...
A puller or "steering wheel puller hub" is the better way to remove the
16V crank pulley.
Btw, don't forget to replace the tensioner...
