Re: clutch, steering rack issues
Sounds to me like your clutch cable is out of adjustment. Have you checked
that? If it's the automatic adjusting cable replace it. If it's manual,
adjust it. Just making sure you checked that.
As for the "hanging on the splines" thing, that sounds kinda improbable to
me. For that to happen your input shaft to the transmission would have to
be really messed up/twisted or have something blocking it (like dirt). Just
because the mechanic saw it happen once on a Mac truck doesn't mean it's
likely, so rule out anything else before paying to have that goose chased.
As for a problem in the tranny... If neutral is still neutral, then the
transmission isn't the problem. There could be some wierd problem with the
arm and lever that actuate the clutch, and that stuff is located inside the
tranny, but try and find out if anyone on the list has ever heard of a
problem like that. I doubt it. Sounds like a mechanic reaching for straws
to me.
Keep in mind that most of the clutch pedal feel is due to the spring on the
clutch pedal itself, and not due to the clutch. And make sure that cable is
replaced or adjusted before anything else.
Sincerely;
Brian Haygood
