how to tell euro curve dist??

Hi everyone,

I am trying to time the 80 S.  It has a 1.8 with
electronic ignition.  I was wondering if the previous
owner may have had a short curve distributor.  What is
the total advance of a stock distributor?  a euro one?
 Any other ways to distinguish the two?

Other notes what does the vacum thing do?  I've gotten
so used to CIS-E I forgot how the old one works.
