Fuel pump interchangeability?

I know a guy with an '82 with a suspicious fuel pump.  The pump on my '84 is
fine, but my '84 has a prepump, and the '82 doesn't.  Is the '84 main pump
compatible with his '82?  I sold the prepump, so swapping the whole setup to
his car isn't an easy option.
