Big time starting problems (non-clicking fuel pump relay)

Okay, so I replaced my control pressure regulator, and everything was
just fine.  I get in to move my car last night, and I turn the key, hear
the click (fuel pump relay), and it starts, and then dies right away.  I
turn the key, and no click, no pump, nada except crank.  I figured
fuse/relay, so I checked the pump fuse, and it's okay.  I replaced the
relay today ($57 from the stealership), and it didn't work.  I bridged
the relay terminals (per Bentley) to check the pump, and it ran fine.
Any idea what could be wrong?  It almost seems like I'm not getting
voltage to turn on the relay, to turn on the pump.  My car isn't going
anywhere anytime soon, so any help would be greatly appreciated.  Please
email me directly with suggestions.
