Lightened Flywheel

I am considering the install of a lightened flywheel when I install my
new clutch.  This may seem like a novice question, but what exactly does
it do performance-wise?  I have heard that it allows the motor to spin
faster (less rotational mass), but will that make a difference with the
car in gear, or will it feel the same while it's accelerating?  Any
thoughts or advice is appreciated.
