Good news: shifter results (1st & 2nd)

It turns out that the reason second gear was grinding, was that the shifter 
was out of alignment.  I am a little confused at why it did grind, it seems 
that would would simply not engage at all.  1st gear is still hard to get 
into.  2nd was my main concern because of the damage that I could hear!
