RE: 16V Turbo Exhaust Manifold

As I have spent an enormous amount of time hammering out a turbo system with
Bardley, I feel well versed enough to put my .02 in here.

Brad and I will both be using an engine management system from a company
called Perfect Power. It the MIC#3 system the can be found on their web
page at www.perfectpower.com. This syetem works with either a crank trigger
or the stock 16v hall sender. There are sensors for engine temp and water
temp and it will run up to 8 injectors. It can be set to funtion as a rev
limiter cutting fuel back at specific rpm....or a boost limiter.

Fabrication of a fuel rail for the 16v is currently on my workbench as is a
Porsche 944T Fuel Pressure Regulator which is good up to about 3.5bar.

I have taken a more broke dick approach than my WA brother however. I got a
used T3 turbo with a 60 trim compressor and .42 AR turbine off e-bay for $75
and managed to get a 60AR turbine housing from a friend just to compare the
two. Brad shelled out big bucks and bought a nice shiney new SUPER 60 trim
T3. We are both using the AMS turbo manifold.

I am using a golf ABA block so I have 8:1 compression to begin with and I
will be putting on a 1mm copper headgasket to raise that just a little. If
you are starting with a stock 16v bottom end, you can send your pistons to
Collin at TT and have them dished to get 9:1 compression.

Total seal rings are always a good idea with a turbo. I thing we are both
gonna use them?

The G60 headgasket isn't any thicker than the 2.0 16V or ABA gasket, just
make sure you get the better metal one. I think it's about 3mm thick when
installed.

As for intercoolers, the best choice is Spearco but that costs big $$$$ so
that ain't hapenin in my car. I have an Audi 5000T intercooler that I will
be welding custom end tanks on that I got for $15 at a Pick a Part. And I'm
toying with a Mitsu Starion cooler that I'll get welded with 2.25 inlet and
outlet.

I plan to run 10-13 lbs boost to start with and work up fron there as I
tune. I don't think that Brad has his boost management system sorted out
yet. I'm grafting in the APC system from a Saab Turbo that uses a knock
sensor to detect pinging and then backs off the boost until the detonation
stops. Theres a lotta Volvo guys running the Saab APC with great success
with boost up to about 18lbs.

Hope this helps anyone out there that wants to join us in the quest for the
ultimate blown Roc

BcH
