I was just going by what my copy of "Da Yoopers Yoopanese
Dictionary and Phrase Book" was telling me.  (I quote: 
"Loper - Native of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan.") 
Gullible tourist that I am.  ;)

But point taken, also referred to as a "Troll from down
below."
