Well the g60 block is almost the same as the normal 1.8 8v, and it doesn't have a harmonic balancer. 

If you had the pistons/rods/crank/flywheel balanced then I would definately say no.
Even if you haven't done that, I would still say no, only seeing as how a normal 1.8 doesn't need it, i dont think a g60 is that different.

I'll bet the corrado list(or similar entity) would know. They probably remove 'em for horsepower (hp being freed up) or at least have discussed it.

I've never seen a VW harmonic balancer, where does it bolt to, and what does it look like?
