I see it on the list and on my car vacuum hose diagram.  What tis?

Thats "Multi-Funktions-Anzeige" which translates
"multi function display" in english.
It`s the little computer that tells you about oiltemp, consumption,
outside-temp and trip-timer.
The display is located in the lower center of your speedo-cluster
and it is switched with a button on the wiper-stick.

The MFA was on most of the 16V and on some of the later 8V also.
