Re: i need help/ideas =>CVD bolt stripped
I just went through this on my car about 2 days ago.
You're lucky, three of mine were stripped.
I am assuming you mean the hex is stripped, not the
threads.
Some dimwit engineed decided only the threaded part of
these bolts had to be hard. The heads are soft as
hell, allowing the stripping. With the shaft hard,
it's difficult to drill the bastards out and use
vise-grips once the pulley/dampener is off.
I solved the problem by taking a small chisel and
putting a nice deep V into one edge of the head. Then
I put the tip of a longish punch into the V, and it
tapped CCW with a hammer. You'll have to put the V
into the bolt head when that bolt is at the 3:00
position, and put the V on the RH side. Tap upwards.
Worked 3/3 for me! But what a pain.
I use anti-sieze on the new bolts, on both the threads
and behind the head.
