Re: 16v for Sale in MN
RoccoPhil nailed it. An older VW (like a 'rocco) is
cheap, after about '84 they don't rust much, and if
it's been treated with reasonable car will last a long
time. This means that you won't be pouring money into
a hole if you want to gradually maintain and upgrade
it. It also has a fairly well-defined and well-known
group of things that go wrong, most of which are cheap
and easy to fix, and this group is a great source of
info, as well as r.a.m.v.w. Plus they're cool. And
not jap.
Recalling when I was 16, my first car was a Triumph
TR4. That experience taught me *loads* about cars,
expanded my toolbox, and gave me tons of enjoyment.
20-some cars (and years) later, I get that same
enjoyment today with Vdubs. My favorite room in the
house is the garage.
Budget money for tools and $50 for a Bentley manual.
I got my 'roc for $300 and it's the perfect car for a
16 year old budding gearhead. There's more out there.
Good luck, and JFDI (just f***ing do it)
