 Definitely urban legend according to all my cop buddies. But my strategy
is: I always send in a notice of dispute when I get a ticket. When they give
me my court date, I send them a letter saying I'll be out of the country at
the time and they give me a new court date. The cops here aren't paid to
show up for traffic court (again, a source courtesy of my cop buddies) and
as my ex b/f tells me.... "unless you've really given us attitude when we
issued you the ticket, 9 times out of 10 it just isnt worth the time or
effort."

Just my $0.02... btw this is in BC. Don't know how it works in the rest of
Canada or the U.S.
