US Rally Team Fall Road Rally: Oct. 21st
You are invited to "World War II", the US Rally Team's fall 2000 road
rally! An official invitation will be provided by mail by next week to
those return this email with:
*Driver name, mailing address, phone number, and car make/model*
***************************
Here are answers to the most frequently asked questions:
Who: You, a navigator of your choice, and at least 118 other
sportscar fans
When: Saturday, October 21, 2000 between 11am -5pm (approx)
Where: Start and end in New Brunswick, NJ (near exit 9 on the NJ
Turnpike)
Why: driving sports cars on twisty roads and winning lots of money is
better than watching tv
What you'll need:
1) A street legal car: valid driver's license, registration, insurance
A working speedometer and odometer
Enough ground clearance to drive normal paved roads without fear
2) A navigator who can read a map and do simple math
3) $15 entrance fee plus money for lunch and gas
4) A strong desire to drive your car for 3+ hours for the love of it
Interesting details:
1) A $900 total cash purse. Where would *you* spend it?
2) Tech demonstration and car display by Subaru, Volkswagen, and Toyota
ProRally teams
3) Magazine and newspaper coverage
4) 20 European cars vs 20 Japanese vs 20 American cars. Will your group
win the battle?
Course description: There will be a combination of topography. A fast
interstate blast will lead into a tour of beautiful rolling hills and
fast sweepers. There are lots of one-lane bridges out there with two
opportunities to catch a few inches of daylight under your tires if
you're pressing hard. These "opportunities" are clearly marked in the
route book for those who'd rather stay on the ground. Following is a
particularly serpentine run that cris-crosses along the spine of some
large hills. The constant elevation changes make for some spectacular
views of rural NJ.
The third leg of the event runs along a towpath canal and national
historic trail. The traffic is very light and the pavement is smooth.
Although the roads don't twist as hard as those earlier on the course,
the low-hanging trees block a lot of the view ahead, making the pressure
to stay on course all the more intense even at the legal speeds that we
will be traveling.
Legal aspects: This is a road rally and *not a race* -a format that
predates us all by decades of tradition. As a result, the US Rally Team
has been able to run events like this in the past without incident. All
of our roads are public thus we have a right to be there. So long as
participants drive within the bounds of the law, the law enforcement
agencies must cooperate with us.
This event has been organized for the safe enjoyment of all. Thank you!
