easy to do. the gas tank can stay on. remove the two screws to remove
the seat bottom. remove the hose clamps from the hose (replace with new)
and replace hose if necessary (should be able to snake it out). problem
is that many of the scirocco gas tanks tend to begin leaking over time
(there was a recall for certain cars only even though they all shared
the same gas tank). this usually happens around the seam.

if you're talking about inside the car under the seat, with a little
wiggling it will come out. the thing that might be preventing you from
getting it out would be the float.
